A Worthy Heart by Susan Anne Mason
I posted earlier that I received a free copy for review of "A Worthy Heart" by Susan Anne Mason from Bethany House Publishing. So here it is the review!
First, I know they say to not judge a book by it's cover but how can you not with this book! I am a photographer so when ever there is a picture on a cover I love to look at it closely and see the beauty! This cover clearly shows a young woman who is determined to fight for what she believes in!
This book is the second book in the "Courage to Dream" Series. I did not read the first book but I was able to understand everything clearly and Susan Mason explained who all of the characters were. After reading this book I will definitely go back and read the 1st book.
Summary:there is a young woman named Maggie Montgomery who goes to America with her brother Gabe to visit her brother. She is from Ireland and her mother let her visit for the summer to escape her former fiancé Neil. She meets her sister-in-law's brother, Adam O'Leary, who has recently left prison and his family obviously does not trust him. The two of them form a bond and they have a painful but rewarding journey to discover not only each other but who they are individually.
This book changes point of views between Maggie, Adam, Gabe and a young woman named Aurora who is also trying to discover herself. I am always hesitant to read books that different point of views because the authors sometimes give more emphasis or life to one character and the other point of views are weak and are in the way of the plot that I am interested in. With this book, I am happy to say, I did not have any problems and the different point of views made the book so much more enjoyable. Each character has a beautiful story of faith, love and finding their individual worth. I was happy to move from character to character because each character was fully developed and had interesting things going on in their lives. The book was mostly focused on Maggie and Adam but the story about Aurora and Gabe was a good one too.
Adam, being an ex-convict, had the biggest problems finding his individual worth as a person and as a Christian. Maggie and his friend John, a pastor, were his rocks through his journey. Christianity was a very important part of the book and complimented it. It did not distract from the book's plot because it was part of the plot and part of the characters' identities. Susan Mason did a fantastic job with developing relationships and developing changes in people's hearts. She also did a great job with imagery and helping you feel what the characters felt.
This book was a very good CLEAN Christian romance and historical novel. I there was no inappropriateness in this book and the characters were very good examples of strong Christians who stick to their beliefs and don't budge. I always like coming out a novel with a smile and feeling like I learned something. This book did exactly that and I have learned there are some things I can do to become a better Christian. I will definitely be rereading this book many times and adding it to my shelf of favorites.
Thank you again to Bethany House for letting me review this book and thank you Susan Mason for creating a beautiful work of art. I will be on the look out for more of her books. Buy on Amazon.com!
